You never know what the person you bump into is going through and that one small act of kindness can create a beautiful ripple.
There’s so many ways you can be kind to people and yet as I look around some days all I see is anger and hurt. I like hearing about the kind things that people have done for them. Something simple like somebody holding the door for you, picking up something you dropped, offering the dime you might be short at the store.
In August, just before school was starting, a lady was going through the checkout where I work. I can’t remember her total but it was over $300 and her purchases were mostly school supplies and clothing. Her bank card didn’t work. Insufficient funds. She was embarrassed and unsure what to do next. Obviously her kids needed this stuff. There was a gentleman at another register and upon realizing what was happening he quietly purchased a $400 gift card and had the cashier take the card and give it to the other cashier who used it to pay for the lady’s stuff. The cashier handed her the card and told her what the balance was and the woman was fighting back the tears still trying to process what had just happened. No one said who it was that paid for it, she’ll never know. She’ll also never know that the man who did this incredibly thoughtful and kind deed for her also did it in front of his son explaining why he was doing it. That boy, who was about 11 or 12 asked his dad if he could buy something for the kid who moved in next door because he didn’t know anyone yet. You can see how this is going to have a beautiful ripple effect.
And all I’ve done lately is buy someone a coffee through the drive through 😦 I used to volunteer at the soup kitchen in the city but then it got too difficult once I had a baby and no babysitter. Excuses, I know. I’m hoping to volunteer again for something useful someday soon. I can see why mothers lose their identities so easily, it’s not easy getting out there to do things for you once those babies start coming!
Do you have any encouraging stories of kindness you’ve witnessed lately?

The one kind thing that just happened. Every year in the flyers and the Moose Jaw Express there is a brown paper bag in it. It is for a food drive for the local food bank.
Groups around the city all volunteer to go to each and every home to pick up those bags now full of grocery items that the people of Moose Jaw donated.
It is truly amazing that there is multiple tons of food collected on Halloween night!

Have you seen that video making rounds on twitter of the little kid walking up to a house and realizing they have no candy left in their Halloween Candy bowl? He goes into his own candy bag and puts some of his candy into the bowl so the next kids who come by will have candy to get.

I have not seen it, but I love this! My kids did that 2 years ago. I couldn’t afford to buy candy to hand out so we went out trick or treating and then handed out the candy we got to the ones that came to the door. My kids thought that was pretty cool lol.
What an encouraging story 😀 Thanks for sharing V!
