Science

Pencil lead, a glass jar, a toilet paper roll, some wires and clamps and a bunch of batteries… Brody made light and though I don’t understand fully how it all works, one thing I know for certain is this: My kids never cease to amaze me. Though it’s something that has been done a million times by millions of others, he still makes me so proud.

He loves nature and science and can rattle off crazy facts about all kinds of animals. He can take a circuit board (I think that’s what it’s called) and a bunch of little clips and contraptions and make a doorbell or make a mini fan, etc. Science is like magic to me.

Putting all the pieces of this puzzle together
Connecting the wires to the negative and positive ends of the batteries so the currant runs to the pencil lead to create the surprisingly bright light.
Bigger batteries would mean you could use less but we used what we had of course.

This is the part of life that I miss the most when working all the time. We used to do experiments and crafts all the time together. Now we steal whatever few precious moments we have together in the evenings to have short little dance parties or play the Nintendo Switch together as a family. It’s still fun but I sometimes feel like I’m failing. Failing who? My own expectations of course. I just keep trying to remind myself that they’re all going to remember these funs times and it’s definitely making god memories for them and that’s what matters. Learning is important but I can’t discount the amount of learning being done by spending time together and laughing.

Anyway!

I hope everyone had a great weekend 🙂

Kids minds are like sponges and it is good when they soak up science. My boys blew me away as well and I attended many Science Olympics weekends with them, both when they were students and when they were leaders. Like the pencil lead, kids just need a chance to shine. Congrats to your scientist Angi. Allan
