Wow! You guys! WHAT IS HAPPENING OUT THERE??
I’m still trying to wrap my head around all of this and this house has been absolutely bonkers since last week (as I’m sure you can all relate). It’s a good thing I’ve been supplementing my kids with schooling for the last few years, I have everything they need (without going over board) and we are good in that department. I’ve heard many people getting mad that the kids have been pulled from school, places have been shut down, people have been inconvenienced…I understand but I also believe that if we just work together and help look after one another, it will all be over sooner than later.
So let’s rewind to last week, when life was a crazy and chaotic normal ๐ We did our parent/student/teacher interviews and things were good (for the most part) and I had booked a separate appointment with my daughter’s teacher to discuss some concerns I had with another student was treating the other classmates. I had got all my baking done and packaged, local ones delivered and the Red Deer ones ready for the car. We got our packing done and sleeping arrangements taken care of and all those mundane extras that always need to be taken care of. I was talking to my Aunt in Red Deer and planning when to meet up because they were going to watch the kids dance (they have never met my kids and I personally haven’t seen them in 3 years). While I was on the phone with them I got the message that everything was cancelled. It was almost 6pm on Thursday night and we were heading out in the morning. My kids were heart broken but I decided we were going to go anyway and have an unforgettable visit with friends and family in Irma, Blackfalds and Red Deer and spend some time in Edmonton on the way back. I was determined not to let the cancellation ruin our time.
I had scheduled my posts here and I didn’t have to worry about things blog wise or with my social media. Imagine how surprised I was when I heard that Manitoba and Ontario had closed their schools. Then on Sunday while were in Edmonton I heard that Alberta did the same. We were in Edmonton around supper time and where there should have been crazy traffic during the rush hour, there was hardly anything. The city was as ghost town like as Edmonton could get. The restaurant was completely empty and I was a little worried they wouldn’t be open and I didn’t know where else to go to feed the kids if nothing was going to be open. But they were there and so hospitable even though this virus had obviously scared a lot of people. We had our supper and felt rather relaxed being able enjoy it without being rushed. The waitress was amazing, the food was delicious and the service was better than I’ve seen in a really long time.
So…We get home at midnight (the decision already made that the kids would be missing school again). When I call the school Monday morning I find out that many parents have pulled their kids. My husband and I are discussing our thought on this matter a little later and my phone starts going crazy. Texts, calls, emails. What is going on? I’m slightly annoyed and as I’m reading through messages and texts from other moms and friends from other cities I am forced to look at this with a lot more concern than before.
I still have not purchased a years worth of toilet paper and only have 3 boxes of kleenex :O
I did not stock up on emergency food because I do not have the funds or the means to do so.
I stock up and grow my emergency supply through the summer so when lay offs happen in the fall and early winter I have confidence that I can get my family through the winter months with very limited income. I pride myself on being frugal and saving in places that most don’t these days. I make my own cleaning wipes (comes in handy now that you can’t find cleaners or hand sanitzer in the stores), floor cleaner, toilet cleaner (though not always), baby wipes, we used cloth diapers for the most part, make my own bread and sometimes pasta… I’m feeling confident that I can get us through this as well. Providing people stop hoarding the groceries!!!
Feeling frustrated over here lol
On with the happy!
We’ve been spending our time with reading (we love reading here!), playing games, and doing crafts, and lots of cleaning ๐ I also have taken in another child since child care is not an option for some people and possibly one more if this lasts as long as it’s expected to.
I have a lot of catch up to do as well since my internet was acting up or a few days. As frustrating as it is when that happens it at least forces me to wake up and go do something productive haha.
How are your local stores? Have you managed to get what you need? Do you have safety measures in place in case you are quarantined? I hope you all are doing well and safe!

I haven’t worried about stocking up. Just how much toilet can a single man use…lmao.
I find it so crazy what has been happening with all the hoarding.
Spoke with my aunt in Ontario and people there were even hoarding potatoes. The ones that were there they had raised the prices.
She finally was able to buy some today at their regular prices

Edmonton and area were cleaning the stores out like they were all going to poop themselves to death. Maybe if they had not bought so much y=unneeded food they would not have needed all the TP. After all, COVID19 does not come with diarrhea. Vancouver was a bit saner, but there were still some crazies around. Glad to be back home, now if I can find any food left in the grocery store……….Stay well Angie. Allan
