I Miss The Library

The kids and I usually take out 15-20 books a week from our small local library. Since it still hasn’t re-opened we are going nuts without having new books to read! The school has a couple of sites set up for all the students to read online but it’s not the same as holding and smelling a real book. It may re-open in August. Fingers crossed!

I also found out that our librarian has retired and oh man! Are we going to miss her!! She is the most amazing person! Norma has lived in the area all her life and is a well known and much loved member of the community. She loves children and is always ready for an impromptu game of anything! She somehow managed to always put together a summer reading program for the community every year and plans out the games and crafts for about 40 kids each day. She’s just such a wonderful person. She also has cerebral palsy and another job she goes to everyday after the library closed each day. I don’t know how she managed to find the time!

So our days have been filled with tons of outdoor play and even some time with a couple of friends. I have allowed some extra screen time for the time being since that’s how we have to read our books now. It’s so hard on the eyes and my eyes hurt so bad by the time bed time rolls around. Which would be now but I’ve been attempting to catch up with my reading on here for so long now. I wish I could just grab my laptop and head to the lake, let the kids play in the water while I work on my blog sitting on the warm sand. But the sun glaring off the screen would drive me nuts and I get called to the water too often to actually sit on the sand. LOL the dream is there.

But…I managed to do some catch up this evening and there’s a storm rolling through. Power was out for 3 hours already today and so I think I’ll wrap this up just in case.

I hope everyone is well!

Hi! First off, thanks for popping in! I started this blog for a number of reasons and if you look through the posts you will see all sorts of randomness. I'm a mom of 3 living in a small village in Saskatchewan. We are a household that is on the go a lot with the nearest city an hour away. We love reading, going for walks, playing at as many parks as we can find and just hanging out.
I struggle with anxiety, depression, & ptsd but strive to find the positive in the every day ordinary moments and thank the good Lord for all the blessings I have :)
My Mental Health journey has recently reminded me of my love for all kinds of art, writing poetry being the first to reintroduce myself to. It's hard to open up and let those feelings flow after being buried so deep for so long.
I have a little bit of everything here so I won't take it personally if you don't like or connect to everything I write, but I do really appreciate you being here and sharing in this journey of me re-discovering my true self through words and thoughts that don't always make sense to anyone but myself :D

Yup. Even though it seems like the same old, same old, things are changing while we fend off Covid. Too bad about the library, but how would they sanitize books. Likely an increased period between lendings. The storm came through here last night about 6 and dumped a ton of rain on us. High winds, skies as dark as night, just like the good old days of prairie storms. Hope the storm was not too bad in your area, Angie. Allan

I guess I just always took the library for granted assuming it would always be there lol.
The storm wasn’t too bad at all here. It came through pretty late at night, winds were high and it poured down as well but it was over really quick. Thanks Allan 🙂

Yes, I’m sure Amazon is doing exceptional! We can now order online for our library and when the books come in we make an appointment to pick them up. I don’t like it lol. I don’t do well with change and I’ll be so happy when/if things go back a closer to our old normal 😉

I can imagine how, you being an avid reader, difficult it must be for you not having the library. Cos I read on my kindle it’s not affecting me, and while I love reading too, kindle’s the way for me now.

As a nurse, I used to spend thousands on books and when I moved last, I had to give them all away – over 500 books and I cried afterwards. So I’ll never buy books again 😦

Too many books is the reason I rely on the library 😀 When I moved last I had boxes upon boxes of books that I donated to libraries, hospital and gave away. I recently downsized even more with the ones that had accumulated slowly over the years. I don’t like to buy them either because I find it too hard to let them go. Thanks Caz 🙂
